Growing up, there were two things I was always drawn to: nature and art. I would spend hours outside, crafting new and original ways to depict what I was seeing. From the moment I photographed with my aunt’s DSLR at eight years old, I was hooked.
Over the past eight years I have photographed nearly every subject imaginable, but I have always felt an unmistakable draw to nature photography that just wasn’t there with other subjects. After attempting to capture the most expansive landscapes, I realized that my true passion lies in detailed, textured close-ups. This epiphany serendipitously came to me during Denver’s most brutal winter months, in which nearly all plant life is either dead or dormant – so I took the opportunity to highlight that season and ran with it. There is a certain attractiveness to death, especially when it affects plants, that simply cannot be found in the bright and blooming. Although most wouldn’t bother giving a withering leaf or drooping petal a second glance, my goal is to take the time to highlight every wrinkle and blemish. By combining my photography with playful AR animations, I aim to completely immerse viewers and allow them to appreciate the quiet beauty that can be found in any phase of nature.
